Throughout April I ran six online workshops for kids in Western Sydney with the help of local councils City of Ryde and Lane Cove. At this time, many kids were staying home from school to comply with social distancing guidelines and missing out on their favourite out-and-aboutings like karate classes, dance lessons and birthday parties.
Along with information about COVID-19, many kids are also absorbing concern and anxiety. So we explored the positive side of staying home and chatted about all the things we have more time to do now: spending time with family, playing with favourite toys and, most importantly, getting creative. And yes, questions about why grown-ups are buying toilet paper by the truckload also came up!
The kids wrote and decorated slogans to help everyone in isolation stay home, stay safe, stay positive and stay creative.
